Solid state illumination devices include at least one electrically activated solid state light emitter and at least one luminophore (or multiple electrically activated emitters optionally lacking a luminophore) with the resulting emissions arranged to produce a color point in a desired CCT region (e.g. 2500K to 10,000K) consistent with a blackbody locus or Plank locus, preferably with a negative Plank offset Delta u'v 'value (below Plank locus) according to a CIE 1976 chromaticity diagram, such as a value in a range of not greater than negative 0.01.
