The invention relates to a reference sphere (1) for use in laser metrology, in particular as a sphere target mark for terrestrial laser scanning, comprising at least one detaining member (9) arranged on the outer surface (2) for fixing the position of the reference sphere. The invention is characterized in that the reference sphere (1) consists of a plurality of spherical segments (3) engaging with one another in a form-locked manner in the respective border region (5) of their abutting edges, which spherical segments combined form a closed hollow sphere. To this end, either two compatible spherical segments (3) in the form of two half spherical shells (3.1) or at least three compatible spherical segments (3) in the form of spherical caps (3.2) and at least one spherical zone (3.3) placed between the spherical caps (3.2) are provided. The two half spherical shells (3.1) or the spherical caps (3.2) are coupled to one another using a rod-shaped connector (4) extending within the reference sphere (1).
