A method is described for reading tire data stored in a tire pressure monitoring unit, wherein the tire pressure monitoring unit is caused by receiving a wireless request signal (C) for transmitting the stored tire data. According to the invention, the tire data are transmitted as a sequence of a plurality of data telegrams (D1, D2, D3, D4), which each contain a part of the tire data, each data telegram of the sequence containing a characteristic identifier of the tire pressure monitoring unit and at least one check bit. In addition, a method for writing tire data is described.
