The subject of the application relates to a method for monitoring a NOx storage catalytic converter (1) during the operation of an autonomously moving vehicle (2), comprising the following steps: A: measuring at least one operating parameter of the NOx storage catalytic converter (1); B: determining an actual operating state of the NOx storage catalytic converter (1) on the basis of the at least one measured operating parameter; C: determining a desired operating state of the NOx storage catalytic converter (1) and a desired value window of the at least one operating parameter, where D: adapting a driving profile of the autonomously driving vehicle (2) with regard to at least one driving profile parameter by means of a control device (10) that the at least one operating parameter is within the desired value window. and an apparatus for carrying out the method.
