CPW-fed modified sleeve monopole for GPS, GLONASS and SDARS bands

A flexible thin film antenna having the particular application of being attached to vehicle glass, the antenna having the construction of a broadband antenna and being operable to receive right or left handed circularly polarized signals from, for example, GPS and SDARS satellites. The antenna is a printed planar antenna formed on the substrate, and includes a ground plane with a slot formed therein and a tuning sleeve having a vertical portion and a horizontal portion. The planar antenna further includes a radiating element positioned adjacent to the tuning sleeve and including a feed section positioned in the slot, the radiating element including a first horizontal section and a second horizontal section extending from a vertical section to the vertical section of the sleeve extend. The ground plane is operable to produce circularly polarized signals received by the radiating element, the sleeve providing phase alignment of the signals.
