The method involves acquiring data in interferogram mode and in image mode on survey points for an observed scene (502), and analyzing the content of each zone on the basis of the data of the image mode (504). Each zone is classified (506) into a clear zone class or into a non-clear zone class based on the analysis. The data of macro-pixels of the clear zone class are summed (516) to generate a 'clear pixel' data stream, and the data of the macro-pixels associated with the survey points are summed (518) to generate a 'survey point' data stream. The two data streams are transmitted (520). An independent claim is also included for a device for adapting the resolution of an imager Fourier transform spectrometer.
