A method of providing a service to a user in an open economic framework implemented on a distributed computer system includes generating a service request by the user 302; providing the service request to a data processing arrangement 304; receiving a plurality of service bids at the processing arrangement from a plurality of autonomous economic agents associated with service providers capable of providing the service 306; selecting at least one service bid from the plurality of received service bids 308; generating a contract associated with the selected service bid for providing the service 310 and providing the service to the user 312. The method also involves receiving a feedback from the user associated with the provided service, wherein the feedback is used to update the confidence of the autonomous economic agent associated with the service provider. Feedback may be stored in a distributed ledger, such as a block-chain, and settlement may use a digital token, such as a crypto-currency.
