Method of assessing the quality of a wireless link in a multi-radio communication system

A method for wireless link assessment in a wireless transmission system comprising devices having multiple radios able to operate in different frequency bands and/or different channels within a given frequency band. The link assessment between two radio communication modules belonging to two different devices can be performed without interrupting the current communications between these two devices. The available time for link assessment is estimated according to the load of application buffers involved in the communications and according to the bandwidth of a temporary transmission scheme applied during the link assessment. The temporary transmission scheme allows maintaining data transmission without the radio communications modules involved for the link assessment, but which can be handled by other available radio communication modules. Accordingly, link assessment may be done without disturbing the real time transmission.
