Method and computer program product for generating a high-resolution 3D Voxel data set with the aid of a computed tomography scanner

A method of generating a three dimensional or 3D voxel data set 40 of an object from a 3D image data set 10 and a higher resolution 2D image data set 20. The 3D image data set is generated by acquiring a number of computed tomography CT images of the object, and the 2D image data set is generated by acquiring at least one additional image of the object at a higher resolution than the 3D images. The 3D voxel set is generated from the 3D set and 2D set using an image data reconstruction algorithm 30. Preferably the algorithm comprises calculating a normalisation volume data set associated with each of the 3D and 2D data sets and weighted with a weighting factor. The algorithm may comprise calculating a projection associated with each data set, and dividing a pixel of each data set by the corresponding pixel of the projection associated with the respective data set to obtain a modulated projection (fig 5)
