Hydrodynamic optimised funnel of fruit fly trap

An inset trapping unit 4 comprising a funnel 2 with a sloped end hole, the angle of the taper or slant of this end hole (14 figure 1) is greater than ten degrees measured using the diagonal line between the highest and lowest points of the end hole. The unit may comprise a vertical extension (12 figure 1) to the lowest point of the funnel. The unit may further comprise at least one air opening (10 figure 1) in the funnel shaft. The funnel of the insect trapping unit may open into a container that holds an attractant liquid 6. The funnel is designed to reduce the likelihood of a blockage caused by a droplet of the attractant liquid which would prevent the trap from functioning. Also disclosed is an insect trapping unit comprising a funnel which is provided with a vertical extension on its end hole.
