Circuit breaker having a framed finger area

A switch assembly 100 comprises a housing defining an interior and having a front surface 104, a rear surface, opposing first and second sidewalls 108, a handle 150 and a frame 200. An escutcheon portion 112 on the front surface comprises a platform 114 from which a transition ramp 116 extends to a rest area 118, and a finger area 120 adjacent the rest area. A perimeter frame encloses the finger area 122 so that the escutcheon portion defines opposing notches aligned with the rest area. The frame 200 is mounted to the housing and comprises opposing arms having distal ends defining openings 210. The handle comprises a hub (152, figure 5B), an axial bore 154, and a finger grip 158 extending from the hub through a slot in the transition ramp, the finger grip having a textured portion and a surface for abutting against the rest area when in a first position. The handle is rotatably coupled to the frame by a pivot pin 124 inserted through the openings and axial bore. The handle may include webbing 156 and have safety protrusions 170,172 extending from the hub. The handle configuration and low profile of the assembly reduces the likelihood of accidental switch actuation.
