The invention relates to a method and a device for determining a flow potential or zeta potential in order to characterize the surface charge behaviour of macroscopic solid bodies. Two electrodes (2, 3) are provided in a measuring cell (1) for holding said macroscopic bodies in addition to the electrolyte solution and the liquid is subjected to pressurization. According to the invention, the liquid is subjected to an oscillating or periodically variable pressurization and each pressurization and the flow potential are determined or recorded. The simple construction permits a rapid determination of the flow potential or zeta potential.
