In order to be able to implement a method of this type comparatively easily and inexpensively, during the maintenance of a train (4), automatic train operating status information from the train (4) being maintained and facility operating status information from the maintenance facility (2) are transmitted to the train control system (12). Movement control signals to the train (4) and maintenance process signals to the train maintenance facility (2) are also automatically transmitted from the train control system (12). The invention also relates to a rail network.
