Abstract: A broadcast transmission device and a method by which the broadcast transmission device processes data are disclosed. The method by which the broadcast transmission device processes data, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises the steps of: encapsulating emergency alert information as a link layer packet; error-correction-encoding data of the link layer packet in a physical layer; building a signal frame including the error-correction-encoded data; and transmitting a broadcast signal including the built signal frame, wherein the link layer packet includes a header and a payload, the header includes header information for signaling the payload, the payload includes the emergency alert information, and the header information includes indication information indicating that the link layer packet is a packet for an emergency alert and type information indicating the type of emergency alert information.
