Disclosed herein is a method including determining at least one property of at least one interface phase between adjacent phases of a multi-phasic fluid during a first operating condition of a production system, such as a separator, and determining the at least one property of the at least one interface phase during a second operating condition of the production system different than the first operating condition. A separation model for the multi-phasic fluid is tuned as a function of a difference in the at least one property resulting from change from the first operating condition to the second operating condition. The separator can be used at hydrocarbon production well site for oil - water - gas multiphasic fluids exhibiting different phase layers such as gas, foam, sludge, emulsion, oil and water.
