An interventional instrument and system include an elongated flexible member (100). A shape sensing fiber (104) is disposed internally in the flexible member. A plurality of pressure sensors (102) are coupled to the shape sensing fiber and distributed along a length of the flexible member such that the pressure sensors are positioned to monitor pressure simultaneously at different positions along the flexible member to provide distributed sensing.
