PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a surface treatment liquid which can impart cation adsorption capability to surfaces of various materials by a simple method, and contains a resin having a specific structure; a surface treatment method using the surface treatment liquid; a cation adsorbent in which the resin having the specific structure is deposited to the surface of a base material; a cation removing device having the cation adsorbent; and a cation removing method from a liquid containing cations that uses the cation adsorbent.;SOLUTION: A surface treatment liquid contains (A) a resin and (C) a solvent, where a resin having a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 or more, and having a functional group I being one or more groups selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl group, a cyano group and a carboxyl group and a functional group II being a hydrophilic group other than the functional group I is used as the resin (A).
