PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize a confocal microscope.;SOLUTION: A confocal microscope 100 includes a light source 110, an image-formation lens 132 (first lens), and an objective lens 140. Light from the light source 110 is sent to the objective lens 140 through the image-formation lens 132. The image-formation lens 132 can move along the optical path of the confocal microscope 100. The confocal microscope 100 detects fluorescence from a diamond 200.
