PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acetylation method of wood having density exceeding 400 kg/m3, in particular, southern yellow pine, and acetylated wood obtained by the method.;SOLUTION: The acetylation method of wood includes: a step of soaking wood having a water content of smaller than 5% by weight in an acetylating fluid containing acetic anhydride and/or acetic acid in a reaction pressure vessel at a temperature of 10°C to 120°C; a step of raising pressure of the vessel to 2 to 20 bar for 1 to 300 minutes; a step of removing excess acetylating fluid from the vessel; a step of supplying an inert fluid into the vessel, circulating and heating the inert fluid until the internal temperature of the wood begins to show the heat generation and controlling the heat supply to the wood until the heat generation come to the end to maintain an internal temperature of the wood lower than 180°C; a step of heating a circulating liquid to 85°C to 160°C for 10 to 120 minutes, making a second exothermic reaction start and controlling heat supply to the wood until the end of the heat generation to maintain the internal temperature lower than 180°C; and a step of removing the circulating liquid by evaporating under vacuum.;SELECTED DRAWING: None;COPYRIGHT: (C)2018,JPO&INPIT
