Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria for the treatment of acne

Methods are provided for treating a skin disorder, eg, acne, eg, acne vulgaris, in a subject. The method includes administering, eg, applying, eg, topical administration, to the surface of the subject an ammonia oxidizing bacterium, eg, a preparation comprising ammonia oxidizing bacterium. Also provided are preparations comprising ammonia oxidizing bacteria for treating such skin disorders in a subject, such as acne, eg acne vulgaris. The amount and frequency of administration, eg, application, may be sufficient to reduce the amount or concentration of pathogenic bacteria, eg, Propionibacterium acnes, on the surface of the subject.
