PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for aiding in diagnosing at least one of infiltration and extravasation in animal tissue accompanying intravascular infusion.SOLUTION: A system includes a sensor and a device coupled to the sensor. The sensor is configured to detect, in animal tissue, (i) a first electromagnetic radiation extinction dominated by absorption of a first wavelength and (ii) a second electromagnetic radiation extinction dominated by scattering of a second wavelength. The device is configured to aid in diagnosing at least one of infiltration and extravasation in the animal tissue on the basis of the first and second electromagnetic radiation extinctions detected by the sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 29
