PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary cell achieving both of high filling density and high specific surface area and exhibiting high cell capacity and high output characteristics when used for a cathode of a cell, nickel composite hydroxide which is a precursor thereof, or the like.SOLUTION: There is provided nickel composite hydroxide consisting of secondary particles obtained by aggregating a plurality of primary particles and represented by general formula (1):NiCoMn(OH), where x is in a range of 0.20≤x≤0.35, y is in a range of 0.20≤y≤0.35 and they satisfy 0.4≤x+y≤0.7, having an outer shell layer from a particle surface to particle inside of the secondary particles and the outer shell layer has a thickness of 10% to 30% of the secondary particle diameter and the content of the cobalt is 5 atom% or less based on the total of metal elements contained in the outer shell layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
