PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a reduction in picture quality of a projected image even when pixel shift control does not work normally.SOLUTION: Provided is an image projector 1 comprising a DMD 551 for forming an image using light from a light source 30, a movable unit 55 for causing the DMD 551 to be periodically displaced, and a system control unit 10 for controlling image projection in a first mode in which an image is projected without causing the DMD 551 to be displaced by the movable unit 55 and a second mode in which an image is projected while causing the DMD 551 to be displaced by the movable unit 55, wherein the image projector 1 includes position detection means 52 for detecting whether or not the DMD 551 is operating normally, and when it is detected by the position detection means 52 that the DMD 551 is not operating normally, the system control unit 10 stops image processing for the second mode and switches to the first mode.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
