The present invention relates to an imaging apparatus (1) comprising a photonic integrated circuit (2). This photonic integrated circuit is optically coupled to the integrated waveguide (4) for guiding the optical signal (5) and the integrated waveguide (4), and guides the optical signal (5) as a light beam (9). An optical coupler (8) configured to guide out of the plane of the waveguide (4) and a microfluidic channel (98) for receiving an object (12) immersed in a fluid medium. The microfluidic channel is configured such that the object can be illuminated by the light beam during operation of the device. The integrated circuit further comprises at least one imaging detector (11) positioned to image the object (12) illuminated by the light beam (9). The invention further relates to a corresponding imaging method.
