PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve background light removal and higher spatial resolution of a nonlinear optical microscope.;SOLUTION: A nonlinear optical microscope includes: a first optical system for condensing first excitation light onto a specimen; a second optical system for condensing second excitation light onto the specimen; spatial phase modulation means for applying phase modulation at a predetermined modulation frequency on a part of a luminous flux region in the first excitation light; a condensing optical system for condensing the first excitation light and the second excitation light onto the specimen; and signal extraction means for extracting a frequency component in accordance with the modulation frequency from the signal light generating from the specimen. The spatial phase modulation means may comprise: a first liquid crystal device that outputs the phase-modulated first excitation light in such a manner that the polarization direction of the part of the luminous flux region is in a first direction and the polarization direction in other region is in a second direction different from the first direction; an electro-optical phase modulator for modulating the phase difference of the polarized light between the first direction and the second direction by the modulation frequency; and a second liquid crystal device that outputs the first excitation light with an aligned polarization direction in the whole region.;SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5;COPYRIGHT: (C)2018,JPO&INPIT
