Composition comprising ADAMTS13 for use in a method for recanalization of an obstructed blood vessel in an infarct

Provided herein are methods and compositions for recanalization of occluded blood vessels in a subject having an infarction. The method includes administering to the subject a therapeutically effective amount of isolated ADAMTS13 protein at a specific dosage and for a specific time range after infarct detection. As described herein, ADAMTS13 conveniently recanalizes occluded blood vessels and further reduces infarct size even when administered long after stable occlusion. Accordingly, such methods and compositions are useful for the treatment of infarcts caused by vascular occlusion.
