The fiber tow drawing apparatus in a pressurized steam environment comprises a plurality of drawing chests (1) and associated support structures (3, 4, 6) arranged side by side on the holding frame at the same level. The stretch chest (1) is formed by two opposing metal half chests (1b, 1t), respectively, and defines a stretch chamber (2). The stretching chamber (2) has a low profile, generally rectangular cross-section, and opens outwardly corresponding to the two transverse edges of the stretching chest (1) through the toe inlet and outlet openings.
