Disclosed are low latency transmission systems and methods for long distances in a SOUNDWIRE system. In an exemplary embodiment, the SOUNDWIRE subsystem is coupled to a long cable via a bridge. The bridge converts the SOUNDWIRE signal into a signal for transmission over a long cable, and converts the signal from the long cable into a SOUNDWIRE signal for transmission in the SOUNDWIRE subsystem. Conversion between signal types may include concatenating similar types of signals into groups that are transmitted serially over a long cable. Such bit slot concatenation consumes the minimum overhead of bus turnaround, thereby reducing latency. In a further aspect, the functionality of the bridge may be incorporated into a headset or mobile terminal.
