PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machining center which can effectively clean a compacted foil-like chips formed at the end face of a spindle.SOLUTION: A spindle is fitted with a cleaning tool 10 so that a gap S of 3 mm or more may develop between the spindle 1 and an end face 2 of a machining center. The spindle is rotated forward at a number of revolution of 100 revolutions or less per min while a coolant is supplied into the gap with a nozzle 20, and similarly the spindle is rotated reverse at a number of revolution of 100 revolutions or less per min while a coolant is supplied into the gap. Afterwards, the spindle is rotated while air is being sprayed onto the end face out of a jetting port 18 on a counter face of the cleaning tool facing the end face across the gap. Foil-like chips firmly sticking to the spindle end face can be removed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
