A riser data logging system can be installed on top of the riser and provide real-time information for the riser instead of or in addition to relying on sensors installed on the tensioner. The riser bounce detection system can therefore be made independent of any movement of the ship. This logging system can feed riser top acceleration, velocity, position, and wireline tension back to the controller. By comparing the acceleration difference between the riser top and the hull, the controller provides a more reliable and faster detection of events occurring on the ship, potentially bringing its condition within 1 second Can be detected. If the acceleration exceeds a certain limit, the electric tensioner can reduce wireline tension almost instantaneously and provide much more effective anti-bounce control than conventional hydraulic / pneumatic tensioners.
