A method, system, and device for wireless communication in user equipment (UE) are described. A wireless communication system may improve UE discovery latency by dynamically selecting and switching beamforming codebooks at millimeter wave base stations and wireless devices. By selecting the optimal beamforming codebook, the wireless communication system may be able to improve the link margin between base stations without compromising resources. In some examples, a wireless device determines whether a received signal from a millimeter wave base station meets an established signal-to-noise (SNR) threshold and establishes an optimal beam codebook to establish communication.
