PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide plated steel wire that can prevent contamination due to algae or shellfish adhering on a fish preserve net at low cost and for a long term in aquaculture in the ocean, and a wire mesh manufactured from the plated steel wire.SOLUTION: A plated steel wire contains Cu, Cu alloy and cuprous oxide fine particles in a plated layer, characterized by containing, at an area rate, 1% to 50% of one kind or two or more kinds of Cu fine particles, Cu alloy fine particles and cuprous oxide fine particles, respectively, on the average diameter of 2-200 μm in a molten zinc plated layer containing Fe of 2% or less, and a wire mesh is manufactured from the plated steel wire. Preferably, the zinc plated layer may further contains Al of 60% or less, or Al of 20% or less and Mg of 5% of less. As a result, a Cu ion of an appropriate amount in addition to a Zn ion is eluted to the vicinity of the mesh, and the adherence of algae or shellfish to an aquaculture mesh can be prevented for a long term.SELECTED DRAWING: None
