PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a delivery object sorting system and a delivery object sorting method for efficiently performing sorting of a delivery object or transfer processing of the delivery object.SOLUTION: A postal matter sorting system 100 includes a sorting machine 10, a VCS (video coding system) 20 and an interface DB 32. A control part 15 of the sorting machine 10 updates a residence record and a relocator record of the interface DB 32 related to a delivery region over which the sorting is performed by the sorting machine 10 on the basis of delivery original register data on an original register DB 50 and relocation data on relocation DB 60. When a residence obtained by image recognition processing is not a relocation residence, the control part 15 of the sorting machine 10 executes sorting processing in accordance with the residence. When the obtained residence is the relocation residence and a recipient of the recognized name is not a relocator, the control part 15 executes the sorting processing in accordance with the obtained residence. When the recipient is the relocator, the control part 15 houses postal matter into a transfer object postal matter shelf and executes old address confirmation processing.
