PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection system for a power system for protecting the power system over a wide area, and a protection method of the power system.SOLUTION: A power system 10 includes: DMD terminal devices 2a-2f each outputting a breaking command to a breaker corresponding to an accident section; a network 3 for transferring information among the DMD terminal devices 2a-2f; and an arithmetic processing section 4 which instructs electricity quantity consumption designating data of an electricity quantity to be used for protection calculation in the DMD terminal devices 2a-2f. An electricity quantity acquisition unit 21 of the terminal device acquires electricity quantity data within the power system 10. An electricity quantity table 25 stores the electricity quantity data within the power system 10. A protection calculation unit 27 executes the protection calculation on the basis of the electricity quantity data in the electricity quantity table 25 and the electricity quantity consumption from the arithmetic processing section 4.
