PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of simply and stably achieving a zero plane anchoring state at normal temperature, and a liquid crystal display device using a zero plane anchoring state achieved by the technique.SOLUTION: In a liquid crystal cell including polymer brushes formed on substrates subjected to smoothing processing and holding a liquid crystal between the substrates, a zero plane anchoring liquid crystal alignment method uses the polymer brush represented by the following general formula (where X is H or CH, and m is a positive integer) and having a glass transition temperature Tg of -5°C or less. The liquid crystal display device includes the liquid crystal cell formed by the zero plane anchoring liquid crystal alignment method.
