The magnetic resonance device (10) has a magnetic unit (11) which comprises a superconducting main magnetic coil (13), a magnetic housing unit surrounding the superconducting main magnetic coil and a cooling system (15). The cooling system comprises a cooling circuit (25) and a heat absorption unit (26) for cooling the superconducting main magnetic coil. The cooling system also comprises a switch unit (28) with a cooling mode. The switch unit couples the cooling circuit to another unit for thermal energy exchange in the cooling mode. An independent claim is included for a method for cooling a superconducting main magnetic coil of a magnetic resonance device.
