The present invention is a polyvinyl alcohol resin for producing a polarizing film having a weight of 1.4 to 1.65 which is calculated by the following formula (1). Therefore, it is possible to manufacture a polyvinyl alcohol film excellent in transparency and dyeability necessary for manufacturing a polarizing film having no display defect or polarization unevenness.Weight swelling = (weight of water at 150.degree.
