Method and apparatus for generating a protocol data unit for radio link control for multi-carrier operation

A method and a wireless transmit/receive unit, WTRU, for pre-generating a radio link control, RLC, protocol data unit, PDU, is disclosed. It is determined whether a wireless transmit/receive unit, WTRU, has data available for transmission. A first maximum amount of data allowed to be transmitted by a grant for a first uplink frequency for a current TTI, and a second maximum amount of data allowed to be transmitted by a grant for a second uplink frequency for the current TTI are determined. The size of the RLC is selected such that each RLC PDU to be multiplexed to a medium access control, MAC, PDU matches a minimum of the first maximum or the second maximum, and it is determined if an amount of data in outstanding pre-generated RLC PDUs for a logical channel is less than or equal to eight times the minimum of the first maximum or the second maximum.
