This temporary support member (2) for a sensor unit of a bearing assembly comprises a first part (10) for accommodating at least a part of a sensor body (74) of the sensor unit, a second part (20) for accommodating, in a coiled configuration, a cable (76) connected to the sensor body and a third part (30) for accommodating a connector (78) mounted at a free end (762) of the cable. To avoid breaking of the cable, a protrusion in form of a lug, which guides the cable from the sensor to the coiled portion. Using such a support member allows an easier automation of the manufacturing process, since the cables of different sensors will not interweave, and no cable will hang on a side of the sensor unit during manipulation.
