PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize perceptual lossless compression of image data for transmission on uncompressed video interconnects.SOLUTION: A transmit apparatus comprises an uncompressed video interconnect and an image encoder. The image encoder generates a compressed bit stream by conducting a compression of a pixel difference signal associated with an input pixel signal by discarding one or more most significant bits of the pixel difference signal in response to determining that the value of the pixel difference signal is below a threshold. The image encoder also sends the compressed bit stream to the uncompressed video interconnect.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
