A molten iron dephosphorizing agent containing 2 to 20% by mass of Al2O3, the balance being calcium ferrite and impurities, and a ratio of (Al2O3% by mass) / (CaO% by mass) of 0.04 to 0.5. A refining agent containing this dephosphorizing agent is added to the converter and the hot metal dephosphorizing treatment is performed.
