Allowing DC bias in the transformer, the transformer's magnetizing inductance serves a secondary role of filter inductance. Due to the high currents on the low voltage side, the filter inductor is a relatively large component, often close in size to the transformer Eliminating the filter inductor as presented here represents a significant reduction in the size and cost of the DC/DC converter, and further achieves improved efficiency of operation as losses associate with the filter inductor are also eliminated.
