The present invention relates to compositions and methods for controlling pests. The methods involve transforming organisms with a nucleic acid sequence that encodes an insecticidal protein. in particular, nucleic acid sequences are useful for preparing plants and microorganisms that have insecticidal activity. In this way, bacteria, plants, plant cells, plant tissues and transformed seeds are provided. The compositions are nucleic acids and insecticidal proteins of bacterial species. The sequences may be used in the construction of expression vectors for subsequent transformation into organisms of interest including plants, as probes for the isolation of other homologous (or partially homologous) genes. Pesticide proteins are useful in controlling, inhibiting growth or killing populations of lepidopteran, coleopteran, dipteran, fungus, hemiptera and nematode pests and for producing compositions with insecticidal activity.
