Tool configurations are disclosed, for example, as used in the tool columns of electric submersible pump systems that prevent the separation of the tool column into two disconnected units by breaking a tool within the tool column. In an exemplary embodiment according to one embodiment, this non-separating tool includes a head and base connected to each other via a housing and a shaft extending through the tool, as well as mechanical stops attached to the shaft that limit movement of the housing by breaking relative between the head and the base. Additional apparatus, systems and methods are disclosed.
