Techniques for allowing the use of one or more signals in a near field communication (nfc) device for nfc communication are described. in one aspect, the methods and apparatus include receiving, on an nfc controller, a remain quiet command from a host device, wherein the remain quiet command includes one or more unique identifiers (uids) that correspond to one or more more remote nfc endpoints. further, in one aspect, the methods and equipment include transmitting, by the nfc controller, a remain quiet response to the host device based at least in part on the remain quiet command.
