Enhanced discontinuous reception (drx) techniques are discussed for networks configured with some dispute-based spectrum combination. Several aspects provide common and separate drx configurations across all carriers and cells. durations can be adjusted to increase the likelihood that a user equipment (eu) will remain active enough for the base station to hold the shared channel. Physical layer commands can also be transmitted to the dynamically entering sleep mode to save power. additional trigger signals sent through physical layer or layer 1 signaling, such as quick wake signals or quick suspend signals, can wake the eu to monitor the carrier-based dispute spectrum or cause the eu to enter mode suspended after the end of monitoring. other aspects provide for initiation of dispute-based drx procedures in response to detected cubs or other signals of channel usage.
