the present invention relates to a power supply device for a sub-module of a modular multilevel converter (mmc) which provides stable power for a sub-module of the mmc connected to a high voltage direct current (hvdc) of the system. the power supply device for a sub-module of an mmc according to the present invention, in a power supply device for providing for a sub-module or mmc, comprises: a relay power unit that is installed between the pn busbars of the mmc and which includes a contact switch form b; a resistor that is connected to the relay unit in series; a tv diode that is connected to a resistor in series; a zener diode, which is connected to the series tv diode; a transformer to transmit the input voltage of the p-n (primary) buses, for secondary voltage; a semiconductor switch to alternate a current flow that is supplied to the transformer; a control unit for activating the semiconductor switch in such a way that current flows to the transformer if a clamp voltage from the zener diode is input; an operation of the unit relay to receive a secondary output voltage from the transformer, and to operate the b-contact switch of the relay unit; and an interrupt circuit unit, which is connected to the relay unit in series and which interrupts a circuit if the current flowing through the b-contact switch of the relay unit is greater than a pre-configured reference current , or if heat is generated due to the current.
