The present invention relates to a method for pest control of a maize vegetable comprising the step of bringing the maize vegetable, its parts or propagating material into contact with selected ginkgo tree components from bilobalide, ginkgolide a, ginkgolide b, ginkgolide c, ginkgolide j, ginkgolide m, and mixtures thereof; and the use of said ginkgo tree components for pest control in said maize vegetable, parts thereof or its vegetable propagating material.
