"Method for suppressing stimulated brillouin spread and parametric devices with suppression of stimulated brillouin spread". The present invention relates to parametric optical devices with suppressed stimulated brillouin scattering (sbs) and a method for suppressing these sbs. More specifically, the present invention relates to the application of a mechanical voltage to the optical fiber (used as a nonlinear means to obtain parametric amplification) to decrease sbs in parametric optical converters and amplifiers. The working principle of the invention is based on the modification of the frequency of the phonons that represent the acoustic waves present in the optical fiber. To this end, a mechanical stress (or strain) profile is applied along its length, so that each segment has a different stress and thus a different frequency of phonons. The interaction of photons with phonons of different frequencies generates several peaks in the gain of the brillouin spectrum, with amplitude and width according to the number of phonons at different frequencies and the physical characteristics of fiber glass. The effect of having applied the tension is to raise the threshold from which the sbs appears.
