The present invention discloses a method for enhancing yields of ethylene and propylene in MTO process, comprising: i) feeding a feedstock comprising C4 hydrocarbon and at least one of methanol and dimethyl ether from a distributor at the bottom of a reactor and optionally from at least one location above the distributor into a reaction zone containing a molecular sieve catalyst; ii) allowing the feedstock to react in the presence of the molecular sieve catalyst, to form a product stream comprising ethylene, propylene and C4 hydrocarbon; iii) withdrawing the product stream from the top of the reactor, and passing it to a separation system, to separate ethylene, propylene and C4 hydrocarbon; and iv) circulating the C4 hydrocarbon separated in step iii) back to step i).
